Dear Student
Tensile stress = Tension at a point/ Area
Tension at distance x from the top would be the amount of force acting due to all the weight below it
Tension = (mass per unit length of rod) (L-x) g
So
At x = 0 stress is maximum due to weight of rod and at x = L stress is zero.
So correct option is second option.
