1. What are the negative effects of the wind in the poem?
2. Do you agree the wind is complacent can concerned? Justify.
3. Why does the poet call the wind clever?
4. Do you consider wind as a friend or an enemy? Discuss.

Dear student,

1. The wind breaks the shutters of the windows, scatters the papers, throws down the books from the shelf, tears the pages of the books and brings showers of rain. The poet tells us that the wind god winnows the crumbling houses which are weak. It does not spare doors, rafters, wood, bodies, lives and hearts. It finally crushes them all.

2. The wind does appear complacent in that it does not bother about all the things it destroys. It blows and wipes out any weak thing in its path. It behaves callously as it blows powerfully causing so much damage to property and life.

3. The poet calls the wind clever as it crushes all the weaklings in its path and then makes fun of them.

4. The wind is an enemy for those things and people who are weak physically and mentally. It completely destroys things that cannot withstand its onslaught. But, it assists those that are determined and strong-willed. It becomes a friend of the ones who have true courage. It wipes out weak fires but makes the strong ones burn brighter!
