plz explain the statement "in a combination only selection is made whereas in a permutation not only a selection is made but also an an arrangement in a definite order is considered"?

As u undrstand the term combination (collection) in a real life as simply, a sack of objects just in this chapter it is same.

Combination is a bundle or sack of objects which do not have any order of arrangement but permutation is like a collection with a definite order of arrangement.

for ex. if in ur class there are 30 students then it is a Combination but if the seat is fixed and we say there are 30 students with ... student sitting on ... bench and so on, then its a permutation...

hope this helps...
