Q1. Sound waves are able to vibrate the diaphragm inside our ears . So we hear. Vibration means mechanical energy. If there is no energy then the diaphragm doesn't vibrate.
Actually sound travels in the form of pressure waves in air.
Q2. Sound intensity is the power per square meter. The common unit of power is the watt ( 1w = 1 Joules/s). The unit of SL is called the decibel (abbreviated dB).
