Positive and Negative aspects of PDS

Positive aspects of Public Distribution System:

a. It has helped in making food available to the consumers at lower prices.

b. It has helped in reducing hunger and famine by increasing supply of food from surplus regions to deficit regions of the country.

c. It has become food security system for the poor.

d. The system of Minimum Support Price and Procurement has helped in increasing food grains.

e. It has act as a check on black marketing and hoarding.


Negative  aspects of Public Distribution System:


a. Food items reach people lately due to corrupt and inefficient officials. Hence, people could not enjoy the benefits of PDS.

b. Malpractices such as illegal transfer of foodgrains to market for profit has lowered the significance of PDS.

c. Ration shopkeepers do not open shops on regular basis. Hence, people do not get proper supply of food grains.

d. The quality of [products are very poor which do not often get sold.

e. There is also the problem of storage of foodgrains which often gets wasted in godowns.

Positive aspect is that it is providing food to poor people at low prices.
Negative aspect is that their is a diffrenciation of prices and this leads to confussion and also sometimes the prices are that much high that they are somewhat equal to the market prices.
