Q.19. "the instructor was finished . But i was not finished ." wht does this refer to ?

The instructor had built a swimmer out of Douglas. He had trained Douglas step by step to swim. Now Douglas had learned to swim and he could swim alone in the pool. The instructor's job was over but still Douglas wasn't clear whether his fear of water have left him completely.
