Q.1 There would be no plant life if chloroplasts did not exist. Justify.

Q.2 Why do vegetable vendors (subzi-walla) regularly sprinkle water on the vegetables

in their baskets?

  • Chloroplasts contain the pigment chlorophyll which is responsible for food preparation by photosynthesis in plants. Hence if there were no chloroplasts then there would not have been any plant life.

  • In summers vegetables lose their water content by evaporation and get shrieked. To avoid the dryness the vegetable vendors sprinkle water in regular intervals and keep them fresh.

see Varshit. Without haemoglobin the human life can't exist. So the same thing occurs in the plants too. In place of haemoglobin, they have chloroplasts.

Vegetable vendors sprinkle water so that the vegetables won't dry.
