Q 21 part b

b) A student lifts an object in the upward direction. In doing so he applies force on the object in the upward direction, displacing the object upwards. However, the force of gravity is also acting on the object.

i) State the direction in which the force of gravity is acting on it.

ii) Which of these forces is doing positive work?

iii) Which of these forces is doing negative work?

The force of gravity is working downwards on the object .
The force of gravity acting downwards is the positive force as the value of acc. is (+10m/s^2) acting on the object having positive acceleration .
Therefore the force acting upwards have a negative acc. -10m/s^2 therefore having negative acc.
