Q24 (b)
Q.24.(a) An apparatus was set-up to show that germinating seeds release carbon dioxide during respiration. Which observation should be made to get correct results? Can you give reason for your observation?
(b) Can this experiment be carried out by using flower buds instead of germinating seeds? And why?

Dear Student,

Yes, flower buds can be used instead of germinating seeds. In this experiment, those plant parts are taken which have a high rate of respiration. Flower buds are young cells and rich in protoplasm therefore the respiratory rate will be high. Before putting flower buds in a flask all the green parts should be removed. As the flower buds respire, the CO2 evolved is absorbed by KOH solution.
