Question no. 40

Question no. 40 39. Out ofa number of Saras birds, one fourth the num r are moving about in lotus plants; — th coupled (along) with 9 1 — th as well as 7 times the square root of the number move 4 on a hill; 56 birds remain in vakula trees. What is the total number of birds ? [HOTSI (Mahavira around 850 A.D.) 40. A fox and an eagle lived at the top of a cliff of height 6 m whose base was at a distance of 10 m from a point A on the ground. The fox descends the cliff and went straight to the point A. The eagle flew vertically up to a height x and then flew in a St. line to point A, the distance, travelled by each being the same. Find the value of x. [HOTSI 11. Divide 16 into two parts such that twice the square of the larger part exceeds the square of the smaller part by 164.

So, fox descends from poin D to point B and then goes straight to point A,

So distance travelled by fox=16m

Now eagle goes x m vertically up from point D to C and the flew straight to point A

And using pythagoras theorem in we get:

And distance covered by eagle=DC+AC=x+AC

Also distance covered by eagle=distance covered by fox

So we get:
