rn Copper ions-releasing IUDs are more efficient than non-medicated methods. Why?
Copper IUD's when placed inside the uterus of the female prevents the sperm from fertilizing the eggs by destroying the sperm. The increased level of copper ions released by these IUD's inside the uterus, inhibits the movement of the sperm through the cervical mucus and further leads death of sperms. These IUD's are preferred over other methods due to the following reasons:
1) They work as emergency contraceptives as they can prevent pregnancy for up to 5 days after unprotected sex.
2) It contains no hormones, so it reduces the side effects produced by any hormone. Because of this, it can also be used while breast feeding.
3) The organism can get these IUD's removed as per their own wish and starts to reproduce as the fertility is regained soon after the removal of these IUD's.
