shiwalik are prone to landslides.why?

The shiwalik rangs is the most earthquake prone zone because it is lies on the plate boundary of Eurasian and indo-australian plate. The Indian plate is still moving towards the Eurasian plate and pushing itnorthward direction at the rate of about 2 cm per year. This collision creates enormous pressure on this area and sometimes it released in the form of earthquake

Shiwalik is made up of unconsolidated sediments and is the lowermost part of the Himalayas is found near river valleys which erodes the soil and hence prone to landslides. It is also located near the boundary of a tectonic plate and hence more prone to earthquake.

The Shiwalik Range ( or Outer Himalayas ) are prone to landslides as a result of its parent rock: unconsolidated rock material.
Therefore, what leads to the Shiwalik Range being made of unconsolidated rock material is inherently what leads to landslides.
These reasons are:
1) heavy rainfall
2) prone to earthquakes
3) extensive deforestation

All the above factors lead to extensive erosion which lead to landslidess

Shiwaliks are more prone to landslides because they are made up of unconsolidaes sediments that are brought down by rivers from the himalayan range

Shivalik range is made up unconsolidated sediments, which are not compact and consolidated. These sendiments, are more susceptible for downslope movement under the force of gravity in rainy season
