Short note on regional variation in indicatie of poverty

Dear Student,
There can be two sets of regional variations in the incidence of poverty. In rural areas, especially in arid regions like Vidharbha, Marathwada and almost entire Rajasthan. Poverty is characterized by frequent failure of crops due to droughts and lack of employment opportunities in the non-farm sector. This leads farmers to enter the vicious cycle of loans. This increases livelihood insecurity among the poor.
In hilly and forest regions like Northeastern states with the predominance of tribal population, there is a lack of information, market, and human capital. This leads them to poverty.
While some regions have poverty due to historical disadvantages, like Punjab and Haryana vs. Bihar and Eastern UP. Punjab and Haryana has benefited from the Green Revolution of the 1960s while on the other hand farmers of Bihar and Eastern U.P. did not get any such opportunity. Hence, this created regional inequality among the farmers.
