sometimes we are given a series of items where no numerical measure can be made , but where best and worst can be identified.
rankings are often applied in these situations to put the series into an oder , example :- the characteristics like beauty , intelligence , leadership ability , honesty , etc . cannot be measured numerically , but can be ranked. so based on this spearman discovered a formula to know the correlation between qualitative things .
p = (1- ∑D2) / n(n2- 1 )
