Sir if the reporting verb is in present tense in direct ie "says" how can't it be in past tense ie "said" in indirect????

If reporting verb is in present simple (says), do not change its form in indirect speech. The verb within the quote will also remain teh same.

Anish says his Uncle Tom has gone for hunting.
