Solve and explain:

1. A cell supplies a current of 0.6 A through a 2ohm coil and a current of 0.3 A through a 8 ohm coil. Calculate the emf of the internal resistance of the cell.

Dear Student,

Let, ‘r’ be the internal resistance of the cell and V be its EMF.

V = (2 + r)0.6 …………….(1)

V = (8 + r)0.3 …………….(2)

Solving (1) and (2) we get,

V = 3.6 V (emf of the cell)

r = 4 Ω (internal resistance)
