$2 x - y = 3............ (1) 4 x - y = 5............ (2)$

from eq(1): $y = 2 x - 3$

substituting the value of y from eq(1) in eq(2):

$4 x - (2 x - 3) = 5 4 x - 2 x + 3 = 5 2 x = 5 - 3 2 x = 2 x = \frac{2}{2} = 1$

put x = 1 in eq(1):

$2 * (1) - y = 3 2 - y = 3 - y = 3 - 2 - y = 1 \Rightarrow y = - 1$

thus x = 1 and y = -1 is the solution of the given equation.
