Solve number 16 please

Solution :

(a)
i.) When plate B is brought near to the metallic cap of the electroscope the charge on the leaves becomes more positive and the leaves will diverge as both carry the positive charge so they will repel.

ii.) When the plate B is taken away the electrons are returned to their original position and the leaves relax.

(b)
When plate B is brought near to the metallic cap of the electroscope, the charge is positive the electron in the metal of the electroscope are attached to the charge and move upwards out of the leaves. This cause the leaves to have temporary positive charge and because like charges repel, the leaves separate.
