Solve the following equations by cross-multiplication method.

· 2x + y – 12 = 0

3x + 7y – 17 = 0

$T h e g i v e n e q u a t i o n b e a s, 2 x + y - 12 = 0 ...... (1) 3 x + 7 y - 17 = 0 ...... (2) N o w, b y c r o s s m u l t i p l i c a t i o n, w e h a v e, \frac{x}{(- 17 \times 1) - (- 12 \times 7)} = \frac{y}{(- 12 \times 3) - (- 17 \times 2)} = \frac{1}{(2 \times 7) - (3 \times 1)} \Rightarrow \frac{x}{- 17 + 84} = \frac{y}{- 36 + 34} = \frac{1}{14 - 3} \Rightarrow \frac{x}{67} = \frac{y}{- 2} = \frac{1}{11} \Rightarrow \frac{x}{67} = \frac{1}{11} a n d \frac{y}{- 2} = \frac{1}{11} \Rightarrow x = \frac{67}{11} a n d y = - \frac{2}{11} H e n c e, x = \frac{67}{11} a n d y = - \frac{2}{11} i s t h e s o l u t i o n o f g i v e n e q u a t i o n .$
