Solve the following equations simultaneouslySin-1x + sin-1y = (2pi/3) and cos-1x + cos-1y = (pi/3)

Your second equation is wrong it should be, cos-1x-cos-1y=π3, ......1and first equation is sin-1x+sin-1y=2π3........2Now we know that sin-1x+cos-1x=π2 so first equation can be written as, π2-sin-1x-π2-sin-1y=π3or sin-1y-sin-1x=π3........3Now adding and subtracting equation 2 and 3  we get, sin-1y = π2 or y = sinπ2=1and sin-1x=π6 or x = sinπ6=12

In these type of problems

for iit multiple chpice question

try value putting method to save alot of time

like i am doing below

as i can see 2pi/3=120degree

pi/3=60degree

120 = 90+30

60 = 0 + 60

sin-1x = 90 cos-1x =0

sin-1y = 30 cos-1y = 60

hence (x=1 and y=1/2) OR (x=1/2 and y=1)

SEE it has saved your lot of time , so practice some shortcut tricks too to solve many questions to save time , but for your boards you have to solve this question completely so practice both methods .
