18 "How many valiant men, how many fair ladies, (had) breakfast with their Kinfolk and the same night supped with their ancestors in the next world ! The condition of the people was pitiable to behold.
They sickened by the thousands daily, and died unattended and without help. Many died in the open street, others dying in their houses, made it known by the stench of their rotting bodies. Consecrated churchyards did not suffice for the burial of the vast multitude of bodies, which were heaped by the hundreds in vast trenches, likes in vast trenches, like goods in a ship's hold and covered with a little earth. "

(i)  With which Continent is this incident associated ?
(ii)  Why were the people dying in large number ?
(iii)  How were they cremated and why ?

Dear Student,

1) The incident is associated with the European continent.

2) People were dying in large numbers because of an epidemic caused due to the spread of an infectious disease which killed an estimated 75 to 200 million people in Europe  in the years 1346–1353. This incident is popularly known as Black Death. It was found  that the pathogen responsible was the Yersinia pestis bacterium, probably causing several forms of plague.

3)The bodies were buried in โ€‹vast trenches which were  created in response to the large numbers of dead.

Hope this helps.
