State 2 factors on which the thermal expansion of a solid depends?
Dear Student ,
The amount by which it expands depends on three factors: its original length, the temperature change and the thermal (heat) properties of the metal itself.
Thermal expansion of a matter is the change in its volume in response of a change in surrounding temperature. In case of a solid body, this change can be also linear and superficial, depending on overall dimensions of the body. For example a change in length of a steel rod is observed as its length is higher as compared to its other dimensions.
