In this story there are two kids - Margie and Tommy who are 11 and 13 years respectively.
They are in the year 2157.
They find a book in Tommys attic which is very old. Margie was exited to see the book but Tommy was comfortable with the telebooks.
Margie hates the school and the mechanized teacher (a computer) as she was given test after test. Her hatred was intensified due to her poor performance in Geography but later on it was found that the geography sector was geared a little bit quick so her performance was satisfactory.
Later on, Tommy briefs Margie about the schools they had centuries back.
There was a special building where all the kids would come together happily and would play, study and laugh together.
Margie then goes to her class but daydreams about the fun the kids had in the past.

SUMMARY

This story takes place in 13 March 2155. In the year 2155 the system of education totally changes, every child has a seperate room in their home for studies, children study in home, a technological teacher teachs the student. Now the story focuses on Margie and Tommy. One day Tommy finds a 'book' which looked like an antic in his house's attic. He reads the book and learns about a place called school where all children gather together and study together in different rooms and take notes in a book and he also learns about a human teacher who will understand each and every child and teaches every child with special care, Tommy shares this with Margie. A suprised Margie daydreams being in a school, learning, studying & playing with kids in her age, instead of a technological teacher who only teaches her the lessons - a human teacher who will teach and mingle with each and every student

On seeing this margies mother called a county inspector to repair her mechanical teacher . Margie gots bored from her schools . She thought that the mechanical would not founds the way to repair it . Once tommy told margie that her mechanical teacher had blanked out in the history sector . The county inspector took it along for one month and tommy felt relax dueing this period but in margies case it had been quite different. Tommy also told margie that they had special kind of schools centuries ago. All the children went to a building called school to study . They sat together played together and learned the same thing . They were taught by human teachers . They had different groups along which they play. But in her schools they had no friend group. This is an imaginary story of the year 2151 when there were no human teacher. at that time there use to be mechanical teacher who have so muck lessons and books stored in them.there was a family which was taken by the narrater where two children were there Tommy and margie. there was a county inspector which was called when any student does not perform well in studies. the study material given to studens was based according to their own level.they had school in their own rooms. they have sit in front of a computer screen and they read the books which were on the screen. the words on the screen were movin.they had fixed hours for study. once margie as not performing good in geography. then the county inspector was called. he cheched the study material and the level of margie and told his mother that it was not her fault and he corrected the study material. once tommy found a real book means he found a printed book and a huge discussion about the old school and teacher and printed books was done between margie and tommy.they said that old school have a lot of fun and studentd can enjoy them very much.

The words stood still on the yellow & cranky pages and it was strange for the two kids as the words did not move the way they did on screen.

This book was found by Tommy on the attic of the house, it was about schools and Margie hated schools because they had mechanical teacher, which was black and had a large black screen on which the lessons were shown. Also the students had to write their answers in a punch code and insert their test papers in the slot of the mechanical teacher. Their schools were in their home itself. The mechanical teacher used to teach at regular hours.

Both the kids later when reading the book, get to know that in the school's of earlier times, a human teacher used to teach students in a special kind of building in groups and gave them homework. All the students came together from the neighborhood and gathered laughing and playing in the schoolyard. They learned the same things and at the end of the day, they would go home together laughing joyously.

The story ends comparing the futuristic schools (story) and the schools of (present) todays generation. Margie and Tommy feel that the schools of todays generation are much more fun than the futuristic schools and they wondered how a human teacher could teach! The Fun They Had by ISAAC ASIMOV is a futuristic story set in 2157 AD. The story writer envisions what the schools and education system will look like in 23rd century.

The two main human characters in the story are Tommy, a 13-year-old boy and Margie, his 11-year-old friend, who live in the year 2157. The story begins when Tommy is very excited about finding a book made out of paper. He immediately went to show it off to Margie who had never seen a paper book herself, and did not even know that such things existed. Tommy found it at home at a place where they stored old useless things. The book was probably about 200 years old and now had brittle yellow pages. Schools of 2157: It was not a specially designated building. The school would be in the home of the student (a separate room would, perhaps, be assigned for school related activities) There would be a computer which would function as the teacher. It would be programmed to teach lessons of every subject according to the student's age. If the level of lessons was too easy/ difficult it could be re-programmed by a special technician called the County Inspector. The computer would teach lessons, give homework, assign tests etc. Students had to type their answers into the computer through a punch code they had to learn (Just like students today have to learn the alphabets) Since, there was no other student in the school, nor even a human teacher, students missed human interaction in the classroom. Hence, many of them hated the concept of school. According to them, the students of the 20" century had more fun.
