Surbai's marks are in the ratio 2:3:5 in English, Hindi, and Maths respectively. If she got 40 marks more in Maths than Hindi, what are her marks in each subject?

Let  Surbhi's marks in

English = 2x

Hindi = 3x

and

Maths =5x

∴According to the question,

If Surbhi got 40 marks more in Maths than Hindi

⇒40=5x-3x

or

5x-3x=40

⇒2x=40

⇒x=20

Thus,

Surbhi's marks in

English = 2x=2×20=40

Hindi = 3x=3×20=60

and

Maths =5x=5×20=100

Her marks in English = 40 marks
                         Hindi      = 60 marks
                         Maths    = 100 marks

We can write the ratio as 2x:3x:5x. Thus English marks is 2x, Maths 3x and Hindi 5x. It is given Maths is forty marks more than Hindi. so

5x =3x +40

5x-3x = 40

2x = 40

x=20

 so English = 2x 20 = 40

Hindi = 3x20= 60

mmaths = 5x20 = 100
