Taking Selfies: Something done for Pleasure or has become an obsession
As it has been rightly said, Obsession with pleasure only generates dissatisfaction, so is the case of selfies especially with the youth. Selfie was a feature introduced in mobile phones just for pleasure of taking our own photos, however it has become so popular especially with teenagers, thanks to social media, that is has become an obsession for them. Every thing we do, every moment we spend, we try to capture them through selfies, thus taking away the actual essence and pleasure of the moment, and making us more focussed on our phones.
Studies have revealed many more negative impacts of selfies than we realise mainly for adolescents. They are more involved in taking selfies and posting on social media to attract more friends (so called "only Internet" friends), comments and likes. They want to look more attractive and won't give way taking hundreds of selfies till they are finally satisfied with their look on camera. This obsession has become a disease. It also makes us compare our photographs with others and finally impacting our self-confidence if in anyway we feel less attractive or beautiful than others, or if we've got less likes or comments than others.
Not only this, we've become insensitive through this selfie fever. We don't mind the situation or place we are in while taking selfies. This process has also resulted in accidents, deaths.
Taking selfie is not a bad habit in itself, however our obsession towards it is wrong. It impacts our physical and mental health in a way we don't realise. We also should not allow it to impact our relationship with others. It should just be done for fun, to maybe capture a moment, a place, your memories with people and that too for yourself and not for the world to see.
Regards
