Given, 10 students of class 10th took part in mathematics quiz.

Let the number of  boys be x and number of girls be y.

Therefore, x + y = 10 ... (1)

Again, it is given that there are 4 more girls than the number of boys.

⇒ y = x  + 4... (2)

On putting the value of y in (1), we get

x + x + 4 = 10

⇒ 2x = 6

 ⇒ x = 3

and y = 3 + 4 = 7
