Tenses= simple present,present continuous,past continuous with four example each
- The simple present tense: this tense is used to express something actually taking place at that moment, to express a habitual action or general truth.
I go to school daily.
The Sun rises in the East.
With ‘he, she, it’ the verbs take an ‘-s’ at the end. For example: He eats his food.
With ‘I, you, we, they’ the verb does not take an ‘-s’ at the end. For example: I eat my food.
- Present continuous: expresses that an action or event is going on in the present, it is incomplete or unfinished.
Smita is jumping up and down.
They are running fast.
The present continuous is formed by ‘present tense of the verb ‘to be’+ present participle of the main verb’: is+ eating;is+ jumping;are+ running, etc.
- The past continuous expresses an action or event in the past that was happening over a period of time. It was unfinished at the time referred to.
Ram and Sita were going to the forest.
Laxman was following them.
The past continuous is formed by ‘past tense of the verb ‘to be’+ present participle of the main verb’.
