The axis of the parabola x2 - 4x - y + 1 = 0 is ? Thank you
x2-4x-y+1=0 (Given eq of parabola)
We need to rearrange this eq. .
x2-4x+4-3=y
(x-2)2 =(y+3)
(x-2)2 =4*(1/4) (y+3) .....(1)
This eq can be compared with standard eq of parabola : X2 = 4aY
where X=x-2
a=1/4
Y=y+3
For standard parabola axis is at : (0,a)
Therefore for given parabola, according to eq 1 :-
Coordinates of the axis are : x-2=0
x=2
Also, y+3=1/4
y=-11/4
So axis is at : (2,-11/4)
HOPE THIS HELPS!!! ;)
