?The bungling of the prison staff is more responsible for Evans escape than his own smartness?.Explain.

Dear Student,

There is no doubt that the clumsiness of the prison authorities aided Evans in his  escape. All possibilities to prevent Evans escape was not looked into. For preventing escape of a seasoned criminal like Evans, the authorities should have paid attention to minor details. The laxity of prison authorities allowed Evans to impersonate Mcleery. When Evans reentered the cell as Mcleery, the authorities failed to conduct a thorough check. Despite searching his cell repeatedly, Evans managed to hide items like beard, spectacles, etc. in his cell. When the governor nabbed Evans in the hotel, instead of handing him over to his own officers, he handed Evans over to unknown officers. These officers were actually Evans own men who disguised themselves as officers to fool the governor.

Dear student,

Stephens cannot be held responsible for his action of taking?McLeery?to the main prison gates because he could not have fathomed that Evans would play a trick on them. He was diligently performing his duty in accompanying him personally to make sure that the prisoner had no opportunity for escape after?McLeery?left the cell. However, to prevent such a case,he should have performed a check on the departing man then it would not have led to such a confusion. Evans banked on the officer making such a common mistake or what can be termed as a negligence of duty because he was much smarter than the officers. He figured out the loopholes through which his plan could succeed.
