The length of a rectangle is 4 cm more than its breadth. If its perimeter is 48 cm find the length and breadth

Perimeter of a rectangle= (2l+2b)
length= 4+breadth
breadth= x
perimeter=48cm

(x+x)+(x+4+x+4)=48
2x+2x+8=48
4x=48-8
4x=40
x=40/4
x=10
breadth=10cm
length=10cm+4cm
=14cm

interesting question to solve

  • 2
let the breadth be x .
then length will be x + 4
so the perimeter = 2(l+b)
= 2(x+4 + x)
= 2(2x+4)
= 4x+ 8
but the given perimeter is 48 cm
so,
4x+8 = 48
4x=48-8
4x=40
x=404
x=10

hence length= 10+4 cm
= 14 cm
and breadth = 10 cm
