1) Greedy hunters, along with poorly paid forest guards are involved in rampant killing of wildlife and illegal poaching.
2) This has resulted in loss of animals as well as protected trees like sandalwood and pine.

Some of the protective measures can be adopted to overcome this threat:

(i) Biosphere reserves can be set up in the country to protect plants and animals. Fourteen biosphere reserves have been set up in the country.
(ii) Financial and technical assistance can be provided by the government for the proper maintenance of Botanical Gardens.
(iii) Project Tiger, Project Rhino, Project Great Indian Bustard and many other eco- developmental projects have been launched.
(iv) 89 National Parks, 490 Wildlife sanctuaries and Zoological gardens are set up to take care of Natural heritage.
