The ozone layer performs a very important function.It prevents the harmful ultra violet rays from reaching the earths surface.U.V. ray can cause harm to various life forms on earth.

Prevention of ozone depletion:-
Use of Hydrofluorocarbon and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons . These do not react with the ozone present in the stratosphere, thereby preventing its depletion.
The previously used Chlorofluorocarbon reacted with ultraviolet rays to give free chlorine which reacted with ozone to give oxygen. This caused depletion of the ozone layer.
