The perimeter of a parallelogram is 88 cm. The length of one of its sides is 4 cm more than that of its adjacent side. What is the length of the longer side of the parallelogram?

Dear Student,
Let the adjacent sides of the parallelogram be x and y.
Let us assume that x is the longer side, i.e x=y+4.
Perimeter of parallelogram=2(x+y)
i.e 2(y+4+y)=88
i.e 2y+4=44
i.e 2y=40, i.e y=20
Thus the longer side = x = y+4=20+4 = 24 cm
Regards.
