The speed time graphs of two cars are represented by P and Q as shown below: (a) Find the difference in the distance travelled by the two cars (in m) after 4 s. (b) Do they ever move with the same speed? If so when? (c) What type of motion car P and Q are undergoing?

(a) area of vt graph give distance/displacement;P =1/2 ? base ? height (where, the base=4s and height=6m/s)therefore;1/2 ? 4 ? 6=12m. Whereas for Q 1/2 ? 4 ? 3= 6m

(b) yes , they meet together at 2s

(c) P is going with non uniform motion ; whereas Q is going with uniform motion.

Distance covered = area under curve

Hence
Distance covered by P  =  4  * 6 /2   =  12 m

Distance covered by Q  =  4  * 3  =  12 m

There is no Difference in distance travelled in 4 secs as both moved 12 m

or We can Solve using distance = Average velocity * time

Distance by P =  ((0 + 6)/ 2)  * 4 = 12 m

Distance by Q =  ((3 + 3)/ 2)  * 4 = 12 m

there is no Difference in distance travelled in 4 sec

Speed of Car P at  at 2 Sec  = 3 m/s

Speed of Car Q at  at 2 Sec  = 3 m/s

At 2 Sec P & Q move with the same speed

Car P : moving with constant acceleration

Car Q :  moving with Constant speed
