Chemical effects of electric current is the property through which chemical reactions can be achieved in molecules when current is passed through them.

For example- when current is passed through water, water ionizes or disassociates into H ⁺ (aq) and OH ^-(aq) ions, where H ⁺ (aq) ions go towards the cathode to gain electron to become stable and form H ₂molecules and OH ^- (aq) ions go towards the anode to lose electrons and become stable, thus release O ₂molecules.
