How do ions conduct electricity?

Free ions conduct electricity. What happens is that the negative ions travel to the positive electrode, and give up an electron each, as they are negative. The positive ions travel to the negative electrode (cathode) and take electrons away from it. Because both processes happen simultaneously, the overall effect on the circuit is the movement of electrons between the anode and the cathode, which means electricity, is being conducted.

ions conduct electricity by losing or gaining ions the flow of current takes place from anions to cations the anions which have excess electrons lose their electons and become stable and these electons are gained by the cations which have scarcity of electrons and thus electrons are transferred and electricity is conducted
