A harmonic is defined as an integral multiple of the fundamental frequency. A fundamental frequency is defined as the lowest frequency of a periodic waveform. For example, Vibrating strings and open cylinder air columns vibrate at all harmonics of the fundamental frequency. Cylinders with one end closed vibrates at only odd harmonics of the fundamental frequency.
Harmonics determine the QUALITY of sound.
