What are hypotonic and hypertonic solutions
Dear Student
Hypertonic solution is the one whose solute concentration is higher than the solute concentration inside the cell. When a cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, then water moves out of the cell through osmosis, leading to cell shrinking.
A hypotonic solution is the one whose solute concentration is lower than the solute concentration inside the cell. When a cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, then water moves in the cell through osmosis, leading to swelling of cell which may result in cell bursting.
