1. We use possessive pronouns to refer to a specific person or thing belonging to a person/people or belonging to an animal or thing.

Example:

• It is her ring.

2. Possessive adjectives are part of determiners. Determiners determine something about the noun(s) they modify. 

Example:

•  My car is the best in town. 

(Here, my, which is a possessive adjective, is modifying the noun i.e., car).
