what are the advantages of rusting of iron
Rust is the oxidized form of iron. Normally oxides are more brittle and weaker than their crystalline metal counterparts. Some oxides are beneficial such as Aluminium oxide, which provides a thin durable shell to prevent the metal from getting more corroded. But, rust is both permeable to water and air, meaning air and water can reach the iron metal underneath the rust.
On top of that, rust is less dense than the iron metal so it can force apart adjacent components, just like how ice puts cracks in the sidewalks. So rust has no positive traits for the physical characteristics of the structure.
