What are the differences between sliding and rolling friction ? ...(atleast 3)

When one body rolls over  the surface of another body , the resistance to is motion is called rolling friction

When one body slides over the surface of another body, the resistance to its motion is called slding friction

Differences:

1) It is always easier to roll than to slide, thus we can say that rolling reduces friction while sliding increases friction.

2) rolling an object is olwayz faster than sliding an object.

3) rolling friction is smaller than sliding friction.

following the above things, today most luggages have wheels attached for easy movement ie reduce friction.

to reduce friction, many machines have ball bearings

When one body rolls over another body , rolling friction takes place.

When one body slides over another body ,  sliding friction comes into play.

I am giving you simple answer and also agree with Geetesh Gupta

  • ROLLING FRICTION: when one body start rolling on any other body then it is called rolling friction.
  • SLIDING FRICTION: when one body start sliding over any other body then we will call it sliding friction

If the points of contact of first body with other always remain the same is said to be sliding friction. If the point of contact with the other keeps on changing continuously and it's centre of gravity also moves forward is said to be rolling friction.

The force of sliding friction is large and difficult to affect while the force of rolling friction is smaller and easier to overcome.

Sliding friction:

The friction which arises when two objects in contact are in motion.

More than static friction.

In this type of friction irregularities of surfaces do not get enough time and get locked with each other as objects are already in motion.

Rolling friction:

This friction arises when 2 bodies are rolling on each other.

More than static and sliding friction.

Rolling movement of both objects do not allow the locking of irregularities.
