A virtual image is one that the light does not pass through. Simplest example: your image in a mirror.
Divergent beams spread out, will not focus.
"When the rays of light starting from a point travel in different directions, then the collection of such rays is termed a divergent beam of light."
Convergent beams come together, pass through a focus.
