what are the major themes underlying the story of the Invisible man? What has Wells tried to convey through this story?

Dear Student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query:

The theme that revolves round the character of Griffin is that vaulting ambition brings destruction of an individual. Griffin was too ambitious and so he involved no other person in his research about invisibility. He was a talented researcher and wanted to grab the limelight appearing as the only first and only person to invent the way to invisibility. However, he failed to find a way back to visibility which in a way brought about his doom. The second theme is science, if used for wrong causes, can prove to be extremely dangerous. This is clear from the contrasting thought process of Griffin and Doctor Kemp. Kemp concentrated on making scientific discoveries that would be useful for mankind. The third theme is, greed brings nothing but disaster. Griffin tried to misuse his invisibility to bring about a reign of terror in the city. He wanted to live in illegally acquired luxury without being caught and so he tried to seek Kemp's assistance. He foolishly divulged his plans to Kemp who acted promptly to stop him.
