What are the social issues talked about in ranga's marriage?

Marriage as a social institution is at the core of the story under discussion. The Indian marriage system lays emphasis on the family rather than just being the union of two individuals. When one marries in India,it is being married into a family and this forms the foundation of a strong social support structure which builds up the larger society. Shyama wanted Ranga to settle down and get married because marriage is believed to bring stability to the lives of the youth. However,we have to take into account that society has changed from the times in which Ranga's story is set and nowadays marriage is not an arrangement between families but a decision consciously and voluntarily made by youngsters. The social fabric of Indian society does not depend on marriage anymore,it rests with thinking individuals who act on their own conscience.
