What constitutes the unorganised sector in urban area? why do workers in the sector need protection? ....Please answer Fast

Dear Student

The unorganized sector consists of all unincorporated private enterprises engaged in sales or production with less than ten total workers . In urban areas this sector comprises of workers who are working in small scale industries , casual workers in construction , trade , transport etc . Street vendors , head load workers , rag pickers etc also fall in this category .

This sector is mostly out of government control and does not have a clear legal status . So the workers in the unorganized sector do not fall under the schemes and policies of the government . They are usually exploited by the people who hire them . Low wages , poor working conditions , no overtime payments , no job security , seasonal unemployment , no social securities like pensions or health benefits are the usual hardships these workers face . Hence the workers of this sector requires protection from the government .

Regards .

  • In the urban areas, unorganized sector comprises mainly of small-scale industry workers, casual workers in construction, trade and transport etc., and those who work as street vendors, head load workers, garment makers, rag pickers etc.
  • We also find that a majority from scheduled castes, tribes and backward communities find themselves in the unorganised sector.
The casual workers in both rural and urban areas and STs, SCs and OBCs need to be protected
