What contrasting picture has the poet painted of the caged bird and the free      Bird? What contrasting picture has the poet painted of the caged bird and the free Bird? (the poem is "i know why the caged bird sings" by Maya Angelou)

The poet Maya Angelou has painted a vivid picture of the caged bird as against the free bird. The free bird dares to fly high in the sky, enjoying the warmth of the sunrays. It waits for another current of air to carry it to the fat, juicy worms that it wishes to eat! But, the wings of the caged bird have been clipped, its feet are tied. It has a fearful tone as it sings and yearns for freedom. There are two sharp contrasts in the poem: the free bird that claims the sky as its own and the caged bird whose dreams have been shattered, yet who still sings of freedom!
