what does a copper wire in a closed circuit not get hot,but a Nichrome wire does?

Dear Student,

We know that resistance of copper wire is very less than that of nichrome and production of heat is directly proportonal to ressitance of wire .

So , copper wire does not produce heat whereas nichrome wire produces heat

This is because copper wire offers no resistance and thus electric current passes through them without producing heat energy whereas in nichrome offers a large resistance and thus the mechanical energy of the drifting electrons changes to heat energy rapidly .
