The message of the poem is that no power, money and beautiful thing of the world can win us happiness. It just the simplicity and innocence which reigns supreme. The poet conveys that there is nothing more precious than love, warmth and affection and money and gold doesn't stand a chance. This is why the poet felt warm in the heart after he met the little child, although the king and the maiden had lots of wealth to offer.

The king, old man and lady offered him something like king offered with his power, old man offered him a job against a bag of gold and lady offered to hire him with her smile but the child offers him nothing but more than a goodwill and cheer. the message was that simplicity and innocence which is supreme. Power, money or beautiful things can't win our happiness

I hope it was helpful.
