what happens to the somatic cell if its surface area to volume ratio decreases

Dear Student, When volume of the cell increases the cell gets larger so its surface area to volume ratio decreases. As cell relies on diffusion, for getting substances in and out of the cell. If, cell gets larger so there will be comparatively less cell membrane resulting in the inner of the cell receiving less material to perform its activity. It will slow cellular process of somatic cell. Regards
