What happens when blue vitriol is heated? Justify.

Blue vitriol (copper sulphate ) is blue in colour as it contains 5 molecules of water of crystallization (chemical formula CuSO4.5H2O).When it is heated, it loses water of crystallization and becomes anhydrous CuSO4which is grey- white in colour.

When blue vitriol is a gradually heated, it undergoes a physical change to form a white powder. On adding a drop of water to the white powder, it changes back to blue.

Hope it helps =)
